Awards time again!

It's November, Sunday brought the official end to British Summertime (although Summer itself has been long gone) and so YCN crack out their Annual Student Awards. Launched yesterday, the awards offer up briefs by the likes of Ted Baker (second year in a row), high street giant Marks and Spencer, and even Hollywood heavy-weight 20th Century Fox!
The deadline for submissions is March 25th 2011, so there's plenty of time to really get your teeth into several projects. I know I'll definitely be entering a few. You can catch all the briefs here, good luck!

Helloooooooo!!!!

Hello blog world, it's been a while. I haven't had the chance to blog all summer. I spent from June until a week ago living and working on the Greek Island of Rhodes, without my laptop (I'm not sure how I coped). So now I've got a lot to catch up on, but I can't wait to start blogging properly (I'm dreaming up some exciting posts as I type). But for now here are some pictures of the island...

I wish life would look this glamorous if I were a real life cast away but, let's be honest, a day in I'd probably have straggly, greasy, sea-salt water hair and red bits where there should be a tan. It's a nice dream though. And it's kind of got me thinking about that age old question, what's the one item you couldn't live without on a desert island? It's a question I've never been able to figure out myself, do I choose something practical or frivolous? Something useful or something entertaining? Maybe I'm thinking about it a little too hard?! So instead I've decided on three items to take, so here we go....

1. My i-pod


2. Suntan lotion (I don't tan, I burn!)


3. A raft (for a quick getaway if I get bored)

Admittedly they're pretty boring choices.

Listing

I'm an avid list maker. I write lists for everything and anything from the basic shopping list to hourly to-do and outfit inspiration lists. I've been known to illustrate them, decorate them and have even painstackingly typed them out on my rickety old typewriter (y'know just to kill an afternoon). I am confident that should I ever have an autobiography, the majority of it will appear in list form!

So you can imagine my excitment when I found this on krisatomic's tumblr. A whole book dedicated to list! And aren't they some lists! I love how they aren't all written lists, some are illustrated too. The one above might just be my favourite. I love how the lists creator (Adolf Konrad) has painted a picture of himself and of his inventory of items to pack. He reminds me of a male dress-up paper doll!

The Long, Hot Summer

Loving this spread from the new issue of Elle magazine, it really captures the kind of summer you just don't get here in Britain. The styling (by Anne-Marie Curtis) kinda reminds me of Kelis' Acapella video. Bring on the sun!

Hair Envy

Spring is on it's way and it's time for a change. I've been looking to cut my hair for a aaages, it's just long, straight and style-less at the moment, it needs some life! I'm looking for a manageable style for those days when I don't have time to (or the inclination) to be handling a bad hair day. So do I go for a........

Bob. A la Dannii Minogue or Uma in Pulp Fiction. I think we all saw how versatile Miss. Minogues hair do was during the X Factor last year, but will it be too high maintenance?

Or I could try out a little fringe like Beyonce's in the Video Phone video. Although the fringe seen on the Gucci catwalk is super flattering... But I seriously love the edginess of the undercut demonstrated best by Alice Dellal and Cassie....

Oh.My.Gosh!

I'm feeling a little proud today, of a fellow Welsh girl done good. I've been a little bit obsessed with young Marina (and the diamonds) Diamandis for a while now! The girl's got killer style, a really unique voice, brilliant lyrics and her debut album The Family Jewels just got to no 5 in the album chart! She was even in this month's (March) issue of Vogue. Is there no end to the amazing-ness of this girl?!?

WAH-WEEEE!!!

I have always been the world's biggest nail biter. It has seriously taken me years to even try to stop chewing on them but, I feel like this year is the year that I will finally have some nice long talons to call my own. And, if ever there was an incentive to stop, then Wah nails are it!!! When my nails are eventually nice and long I will treat myself to some of their nail art...which leaves me a good while to choose what i want....

Dolce & Gabbana

Oh, to be a snow bunny in a D&G world! I’m majorly crushing the alpine inspired fair-isle fest that is the labels Autumn/Winter 2010 collection, which showed in Milan a couple of days ago. Can't see it being practical on pistè but who cares when it looks this good?! The knitted all-in-one/romper and the cable knit hotpants have my name on them! But until I inherit a small fortune I've got a good few months to perfect my knitting skills....

Rest In Peace

The week has been a very hard one here at Hello Hula HQ, I'm not quite sure how I managed to make it through. Tuesday brought the great loss of Hello Hula muse and best friend, Pancakes (after what feels like the shortest 2 and a half years). Things have suddenly become very quiet here since. We'll miss her pretty little cotton tail, her bouncy bounding hops across the garden, her willingness to be a dress up doll for the sake of entertainment, and of course her generous cuddles. What I wouldn't give to see her cheekily jump onto the couch and attack the cushions. Rest in peace little friend, you'll be forever missed.

Of course, it wouldn't be right to mention sad news of the week without paying tribute to the late great British designer, Alexander McQueen (CBE) who's death this week came was a great shock. It's such a shame to see such a talented, inspiring designer die so young. Here are my favourite few McQueen images....

I would also like to send out some love to my close friend Esther who lost her Grandfather this week aswell. What a horrible week!
